Scorch Trial done. Eleanor Roosevelt??

So yes, I have finished The Scorch Trials, and after my new book, I will start The Death Cure. The Scorch Trials was an amazing book, and I recommend it to all, as long as you read the first book. I have done a Book Talk on The Scorch Trials that you can check out under the page, My Projects. The book that I have started is a nonfiction book about Eleanor Roosevelt. It is by Lucile Davis. Although it isn't very long, it has amazing details and information. I have not finished it yet, but I have read enough to know that Eleanor was an amazing person, that helps other out of the kindness of her heart.

So far I have learned that Eleanor was a shy child who was favorited by her father. Her father was a man who loved to help the poor and sometimes brought Eleanor along to learn the ways of helpfulness. Helping made Eleanor feel helpful, and useful. At the age of 8, her mother died. Even worse, 2 years later her father died. She was sent to live with her grandmother. At the age of 15, Eleanor went to England to go to a school called, Allenswood. At the age of 18, Eleanor went to New York and continued helping others. Believe it or not, Eleanor and (future husband/president) Franklin were distant cousins. They saw each other at parties, and later started to date. In 1901, Eleanor and Franklin got married. Even though this is all I read, I still need more information to do my last project.

Scorch Trials; Last week?

Hello everyone! I would just like to inform that I have been reading WAY more lately and might finish this week. So last time I blogged I talked about how Winston had been attacked and Newt, Thomas, and Minho are about to go outside. Newt  proposes that they use their sheets to block their eyes, and dont get burned. After a while of walking and seeing a few cranks, they hear screams. It goes on for awhile, while the Gladers are still walking. They keep walking until Thomas notices a building with a girl in front. Thomas agrees to go and check it out. The girl quickly runs inside. Thomas follows and see that its Teresa. They have a moment before Teresa asks for Thomas to leave, so they wont be in danger. Thomas runs out and starts to run towards the city. Everyone quickly runs after Thomas so that they are only a few miles from, what I started to call, 'Ghost Town' Minho decides to have everyone rest. The next day, when everyone is awake, they get to the outskirts of 'Ghost Town' and find an old man. He talks about how there is bad people and they shouldn't go to the city. As they leave the man, it starts to storm. They all start running and soon people are starting to get hit by lightning and falling. The others just keep running. Then Minho gets hit by lightning. Thomas quickly rolls mud on Minho and sets the fire out. He helps Minho up and carries him to the nearest building. Once they are inside, they all sleep. After a good sleep, a crank falls from a big hole in the ceiling. Minho later attacks him and other cranks come down too. Thomas asks the crank, Jorge, to speak with him to come to a compromise. Jorge later takes Thomas on his offer, which is that him and a girl named Brenda go with him to get the cure. Thomas agrees, but wonders about the other cranks. Jorge says not to worry about it. So all the gladers, and Aris of coarse, go and get some food, and Brenda starts to take a liking to Thomas. She has constantly flirted with him and saved him from the ceiling, that happened to be falling on top of everyone while they were eating. Brenda drags him away from the other gladers and they have a moment. The question is, who does he have more feelings for? Teresa or Brenda?

I decided to do a character analysis on Jorge. He seems to be a crazy, wild, strait forward, head strong guy that follows his own rules. Jorge and the other gladers met by the talk of food. Like when he came from the ceiling, its not like he fell. The book literally said,"He looked up just as the others did. A face looked down at them from the shredded remains of the third floor, that of a young Hispanic man. His eyes were slightly wild, and Thomas felt a belt of tension cinch inside him. "Who're you?" Minho shouted. Then, to Thomas's utter disbelief, the man jumped through the jagged hole in the ceilings, falling toward them. At the last second he crumpled into a human ball and rolled three times, then sprang up to his feet" The funny part about Jorge is that he is Hispanic and will sometime say "muchacho " or "hermano" Muchacho means 'young man' and hermano means 'brother' Its funny because, if you haven't read my 'About Me!" you would see that I have a little brother and sometimes when I get home, I will go into his room and pick him up greeting him with a "Hola mi hermano" which most times he will giggle at, so when I read Jorge say it, I said in my head "Hey, I know that word" If I am totally being honest, I really like Jorge. He is outgoing and sounds really fun, as long as you dont get on his bad side.

Scorch Trials, Week 4

Well, all the gladers made it into the Flat Trains. After a few hours there is a kids that starts screaming and thrashing and falls on the floor. When the screaming stops, Thomas goes and checks it out. When he does, he finds that the kids head is covered in a metal ball. They all decide to keep going and see if anyone else gets 'Metal-Balled' Only one more person got 'Metal-Balled' and a little later, Minho says that he found a staircase. After running up the staircase, they get to the top and think it is a dead end. Then Minho and Newt find a handle and open it, to see the outside world. It is bright, scolding hot outside, so they leave the door, a crack open and wait for everyones eyes to adjust. As they were waiting, Thomas heard a scream. It was Winston. This silver goo had gotten on his face. Winston was on the stairs trying to pull it off repeatedly before Thomas grabbed a bed sheet and helped him pull it off. Once it was off the silver goo 'flew' off and just left. The way the book described Winston, was horrifying. The book described Winston as "...a mess. Curled up into a ball, shaking. The hair on his head had vanished, replaced with raw skin and spots of seeping blood. His ears were cut and ragged, but whole. He sobbed, surely from the pain and trauma of what he had been through" After that, Minho had him, Newt and Thomas go outside, while a few gladers picked up the mess Thomas made when he went to help Winston, and a few went to help Winston get up and walk toward the door.

Throughout the whole book, one word that is used a lot is sickening or disgust. I think that they use those words more in the first 17 chapters than the whole first book. They use it to mostly describe what they see and what they are going through. Like in the beginning, when they found dead bodies hanging from the ceiling, the book described how the gladers looked with disgust or how the scene was sickening. Or when Thomas had a 'sickening' thought about something but pushed the thought away. Or when Thomas was feeling the face of the boy who got 'Metal-Balled' and didn't feel a neck or head, where they are supposed to be, and felt a metal ball instead. Dashner described it as disgusting and bloody and gory, it just sounded sickening. So far this is a good book and I am about to start reading way more than I was before.
