Eleanor & Park

         I recently started reading Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. It is such an amazing book. I really do love it. So the format of the book is kind of weird. It will switch back and forth between Eleanor and Park. So far, I have learned at Eleanor's mother and Eleanor's father are split up, Eleanor's mother is married to a man named Richie, Eleanor has a sister, two brothers, and a baby siblings. I dont know the gender of the baby, but her sister's name is Maisie, she has two brothers, Mouse and Ben, and Richie will often yell at Eleanor's mother. Park is very different. Park is half Korean. His mother is a very nice Korean lady, who also has a salon. Her father is American, but met Park's mother when he went to Korea for a war. Park has one brother, Josh. Park is one of the shortest people in his family. Park and Josh take taekwondo, simply because their dad wants them to. Eleanor and Park met on the bus, when Tina, a girl in their class, was making fun of her, so Park let her sit next to him. After a while, Park noticed that she was reading his comic books, and the next day, gave her some to read at home. After awhile, Eleanor and Park get really close. They hold hands, and talk, and laugh, but didn't make it 'official'. Eleanor is often bullied at school. But one day, Eleanor tells Park that she is babysitting her dad's fiancee's kid, and will call him. After a while of talking on the phone, just when Eleanor had to hang up, Park said that he loved her. That Monday, a boy named Steve, said something mean to Eleanor, and Park beat him up, and called Eleanor his girlfriend. Park was suspended and his mom said he wasn't allowed to have a girlfriend, as long as he was grounded. Once Park got back to school, he didn't tell Eleanor that he wasn't supposed to have a girlfriend.

         I am doing a character analysis on Eleanor. Eleanor is very quite, usually talks to no one, but Park. Eleanor is a little on the bigger side, and has bright red hair. Eleanor lives with her mom, her sister, her two brothers, a baby, and Richie. Richie is Eleanor's mom's husband. Richie is a very mean man who constantly gets drunk and yells at Eleanor's mom. On Eleanor's first day of school, she was being bullied on the bus, by Tina. After a while, Park let her sit next to him. As the book goes on, Eleanor and Park's relationship go from sitting next to each other to sharing comics to discussing them then a relationship. The relationship started as just holding hands, but then Eleanor goes to Park's house, then Park beats up Steve and basically makes it official there and then. Eleanor has two friends, DeNice and Beebi. They are both African-American and became friends with Eleanor after Tina and her friends called her fat, and stuck pads on her gym locker. They are now good friends and hang out frequently. Until next time!!
