Eleanor & Park

I recently started reading Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. It is such an amazing book. I really do love it. So the format of the book is kind of weird. It will switch back and forth between Eleanor and Park. So far, I have learned at Eleanor's mother and Eleanor's father are split up, Eleanor's mother is married to a man named Richie, Eleanor has a sister, two brothers, and a baby siblings. I dont know the gender of the baby, but her sister's name is Maisie, she has two brothers, Mouse and Ben, and Richie will often yell at Eleanor's mother. Park is very different. Park is half Korean. His mother is a very nice Korean lady, who also has a salon. Her father is American, but met Park's mother when he went to Korea for a war. Park has one brother, Josh. Park is one of the shortest people in his family. Park and Josh take taekwondo, simply because their dad wants them to. Eleanor and Park met on the bus, when Tina, a girl in their class, was making fun of her, so Park let her sit next to him. After a while, Park noticed that she was reading his comic books, and the next day, gave her some to read at home. After awhile, Eleanor and Park get really close. They hold hands, and talk, and laugh, but didn't make it 'official'. Eleanor is often bullied at school. But one day, Eleanor tells Park that she is babysitting her dad's fiancee's kid, and will call him. After a while of talking on the phone, just when Eleanor had to hang up, Park said that he loved her. That Monday, a boy named Steve, said something mean to Eleanor, and Park beat him up, and called Eleanor his girlfriend. Park was suspended and his mom said he wasn't allowed to have a girlfriend, as long as he was grounded. Once Park got back to school, he didn't tell Eleanor that he wasn't supposed to have a girlfriend.

I am doing a character analysis on Eleanor. Eleanor is very quite, usually talks to no one, but Park. Eleanor is a little on the bigger side, and has bright red hair. Eleanor lives with her mom, her sister, her two brothers, a baby, and Richie. Richie is Eleanor's mom's husband. Richie is a very mean man who constantly gets drunk and yells at Eleanor's mom. On Eleanor's first day of school, she was being bullied on the bus, by Tina. After a while, Park let her sit next to him. As the book goes on, Eleanor and Park's relationship go from sitting next to each other to sharing comics to discussing them then a relationship. The relationship started as just holding hands, but then Eleanor goes to Park's house, then Park beats up Steve and basically makes it official there and then. Eleanor has two friends, DeNice and Beebi. They are both African-American and became friends with Eleanor after Tina and her friends called her fat, and stuck pads on her gym locker. They are now good friends and hang out frequently. Until next time!!

Death Cure

Since I have finished Eleanor Roosevelt and have almost nothing else to read, I decided to read the third book in the Maze Runner series. The Death Cure. I haven't really read much, but so far it is great. At the end of the last book, the gladers, the girl gladers, Teresa, Aris, Jorge, and Brenda make it to safe haven. They all get nicer clothes, take showers, eat, and just hang out. Thomas decides to take a nap, but when he wakes up he's in a different room. He hears Teresa in his head, but all she says it that WICKED took Thomas away from the rest of the group. After he is informed about his where a bouts, he tells Teresa not to contact him through their minds anymore.

So far, this book is amazing. I decided to talk about the connection between Thomas and Teresa. It is very strong. Just by the way they react to each other with everything they do. Like when Teresa and Aris were forced to kiss, Thomas had a cringe attack. Or when Thomas told Teresa that he couldn't trust her anymore, she flinched, like it was the worst thing to hear. They can also communicate telepathically, which is pretty cool. Thomas and Teresa have a strong connection, that I dont think could be broken easily. I can tell that later in this book, they will all find each other, and Teresa and Thomas will still be as strong, as before. Maybe even stronger. Hopefully Thomas and the gladers meet up again. I am really excited to read the rest of the book.

Eleanor Roosevelt; finished

As you know, when I finished The Scorch Trials, I started Eleanor Roosevelt. A few days ago, I finished Eleanor Roosevelt. In 1905, Eleanor and Franklin settled down in New York. The next year, they had their first child, Anna. They had four more children after that. James, Elliot Franklin Jr, and John. In 1910, Franklin began his work in politics. He ran for New York state senator and won. In 1921, Franklin got Polio. Franklin couldn't walk or talk. Eleanor wanted to help. She went places Franklin couldn't, and was asked to make speeches. She also wrote articles for newspapers, and fought for laws that would help others. When Franklin was president and the Great Depression started, Eleanor was his 'eyes and ears' as the book says it. People wrote to Eleanor about their problems and sometimes she received more that 30,000 letters a month. After Franklin died, and she was no longer the first lady, she still wanted to help. In 1945, President Truman asked her to join the US delegation to the United Nations.

Eleanor Roosevelt was an amazing lady that everyone strives to be. She was a person who always believed that you could do anything you put your mind to. Eleanor was a lady who wanted to help everyone. From the poor to the working-class to her husband. She was a brave young lady who went through a lot from a young age to old and still went on to help people. She had 4 children and still worked hard to provide for them and help her husband with anything he needed. Eleanor Roosevelt is a good, strong woman who deserved to be remembered for the woman she was.

Scorch Trial done. Eleanor Roosevelt??

So yes, I have finished The Scorch Trials, and after my new book, I will start The Death Cure. The Scorch Trials was an amazing book, and I recommend it to all, as long as you read the first book. I have done a Book Talk on The Scorch Trials that you can check out under the page, My Projects. The book that I have started is a nonfiction book about Eleanor Roosevelt. It is by Lucile Davis. Although it isn't very long, it has amazing details and information. I have not finished it yet, but I have read enough to know that Eleanor was an amazing person, that helps other out of the kindness of her heart.

So far I have learned that Eleanor was a shy child who was favorited by her father. Her father was a man who loved to help the poor and sometimes brought Eleanor along to learn the ways of helpfulness. Helping made Eleanor feel helpful, and useful. At the age of 8, her mother died. Even worse, 2 years later her father died. She was sent to live with her grandmother. At the age of 15, Eleanor went to England to go to a school called, Allenswood. At the age of 18, Eleanor went to New York and continued helping others. Believe it or not, Eleanor and (future husband/president) Franklin were distant cousins. They saw each other at parties, and later started to date. In 1901, Eleanor and Franklin got married. Even though this is all I read, I still need more information to do my last project.

Scorch Trials; Last week?

Hello everyone! I would just like to inform that I have been reading WAY more lately and might finish this week. So last time I blogged I talked about how Winston had been attacked and Newt, Thomas, and Minho are about to go outside. Newt  proposes that they use their sheets to block their eyes, and dont get burned. After a while of walking and seeing a few cranks, they hear screams. It goes on for awhile, while the Gladers are still walking. They keep walking until Thomas notices a building with a girl in front. Thomas agrees to go and check it out. The girl quickly runs inside. Thomas follows and see that its Teresa. They have a moment before Teresa asks for Thomas to leave, so they wont be in danger. Thomas runs out and starts to run towards the city. Everyone quickly runs after Thomas so that they are only a few miles from, what I started to call, 'Ghost Town' Minho decides to have everyone rest. The next day, when everyone is awake, they get to the outskirts of 'Ghost Town' and find an old man. He talks about how there is bad people and they shouldn't go to the city. As they leave the man, it starts to storm. They all start running and soon people are starting to get hit by lightning and falling. The others just keep running. Then Minho gets hit by lightning. Thomas quickly rolls mud on Minho and sets the fire out. He helps Minho up and carries him to the nearest building. Once they are inside, they all sleep. After a good sleep, a crank falls from a big hole in the ceiling. Minho later attacks him and other cranks come down too. Thomas asks the crank, Jorge, to speak with him to come to a compromise. Jorge later takes Thomas on his offer, which is that him and a girl named Brenda go with him to get the cure. Thomas agrees, but wonders about the other cranks. Jorge says not to worry about it. So all the gladers, and Aris of coarse, go and get some food, and Brenda starts to take a liking to Thomas. She has constantly flirted with him and saved him from the ceiling, that happened to be falling on top of everyone while they were eating. Brenda drags him away from the other gladers and they have a moment. The question is, who does he have more feelings for? Teresa or Brenda?

I decided to do a character analysis on Jorge. He seems to be a crazy, wild, strait forward, head strong guy that follows his own rules. Jorge and the other gladers met by the talk of food. Like when he came from the ceiling, its not like he fell. The book literally said,"He looked up just as the others did. A face looked down at them from the shredded remains of the third floor, that of a young Hispanic man. His eyes were slightly wild, and Thomas felt a belt of tension cinch inside him. "Who're you?" Minho shouted. Then, to Thomas's utter disbelief, the man jumped through the jagged hole in the ceilings, falling toward them. At the last second he crumpled into a human ball and rolled three times, then sprang up to his feet" The funny part about Jorge is that he is Hispanic and will sometime say "muchacho " or "hermano" Muchacho means 'young man' and hermano means 'brother' Its funny because, if you haven't read my 'About Me!" you would see that I have a little brother and sometimes when I get home, I will go into his room and pick him up greeting him with a "Hola mi hermano" which most times he will giggle at, so when I read Jorge say it, I said in my head "Hey, I know that word" If I am totally being honest, I really like Jorge. He is outgoing and sounds really fun, as long as you dont get on his bad side.

Scorch Trials, Week 4

Well, all the gladers made it into the Flat Trains. After a few hours there is a kids that starts screaming and thrashing and falls on the floor. When the screaming stops, Thomas goes and checks it out. When he does, he finds that the kids head is covered in a metal ball. They all decide to keep going and see if anyone else gets 'Metal-Balled' Only one more person got 'Metal-Balled' and a little later, Minho says that he found a staircase. After running up the staircase, they get to the top and think it is a dead end. Then Minho and Newt find a handle and open it, to see the outside world. It is bright, scolding hot outside, so they leave the door, a crack open and wait for everyones eyes to adjust. As they were waiting, Thomas heard a scream. It was Winston. This silver goo had gotten on his face. Winston was on the stairs trying to pull it off repeatedly before Thomas grabbed a bed sheet and helped him pull it off. Once it was off the silver goo 'flew' off and just left. The way the book described Winston, was horrifying. The book described Winston as "...a mess. Curled up into a ball, shaking. The hair on his head had vanished, replaced with raw skin and spots of seeping blood. His ears were cut and ragged, but whole. He sobbed, surely from the pain and trauma of what he had been through" After that, Minho had him, Newt and Thomas go outside, while a few gladers picked up the mess Thomas made when he went to help Winston, and a few went to help Winston get up and walk toward the door.

Throughout the whole book, one word that is used a lot is sickening or disgust. I think that they use those words more in the first 17 chapters than the whole first book. They use it to mostly describe what they see and what they are going through. Like in the beginning, when they found dead bodies hanging from the ceiling, the book described how the gladers looked with disgust or how the scene was sickening. Or when Thomas had a 'sickening' thought about something but pushed the thought away. Or when Thomas was feeling the face of the boy who got 'Metal-Balled' and didn't feel a neck or head, where they are supposed to be, and felt a metal ball instead. Dashner described it as disgusting and bloody and gory, it just sounded sickening. So far this is a good book and I am about to start reading way more than I was before.

Scorch Trials: 3rd week

AS you know, I am reading The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. Last week, a lot of stuff happened, but this week, even more did. After a few days in the room apartment place, and the gladers ran out of food. They then, find a bathroom and drink water, almost everyday. After a few more days, the gladers find food in one of the other rooms. They also find a man, in a suit, behind an invisible wall. After a few hours, the man speaks and says that they are apart of stage 2 of the trials. The first stage was the Maze and the second, is the Scorch Trials. He says that the next morning, at 6am the gladers have to get ready and go through this thing called a Flat Train. He says that they have to go fast because whoever isn't in the Flat Train by 6:05am, will be executed. So the next morning, they all wake up at 6am and they all go through the Flat Train, before 6:05am.

Since last week, a lot has happened. This week I am doing the signpost contrast and contradictions. The character I picked to do this about is Thomas. Ever since Teresa went missing, Thomas has been acting weird. He has been quiet and doesn't really interact with everyone anymore. He also found out that him and Aris can speak telepathically. I think that since he found this out, that he felt like he lost Teresa forever and is becoming more distant from the other Gladers. Another person who is acting weirdly, is Newt. Ever since he found out that his tattoo said he was the glue and that Minho was the leader, he acts like he isn't fit out to be the leader. Before this, Newt was the one who always called the shots, and became the leader type. But ever since he say Minho's tattoo, he kept convincing Minho that Minho was the leader instead of himself. After a lot of convincing, Minho finally said ok on being the leader. Then after that, Newt started acting, distant, and would really just stay in the background when Minho would give a 'pep' talk.
